Regina
Lions Band Makes Music Donation to U of R
University
new home to a large music library
It’s
time to break out the band. The Regina Lions Band is handing off one
of the province’s largest music libraries to the Faculty of Fine
Arts, Department of Music. The gift is part of a larger donation by
the Regina Lions Band to the Building Dreams and Futures campaign at
the University of Regina.
Worth
over $460,000, the donation includes the extensive music collection,
including 6, 397 titles, some of which are
limited edition scores as well as out of print music and one of a
kind marching shows. Musical instruments and other equipment,
such as chairs and music stands will go to the Centre for Continuing
Education, Conservatory of Performing Arts.
“The
Regina Lions Band is proud to donate our music library to the
University of Regina, as the University has the best resources to
house the library and be its curator, preserving its history and
ensuring that it will be available to future generations of Regina
and Saskatchewan musicians,” says Regina Lions Band Past
President, Susan Hardy.
“This
gift to the Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Music, and the
Centre for Continuing Education, Conservatory of Performing Arts
will help our students develop their talents, pursue their dreams,
and showcase their fine education,” said University of Regina
President and Vice-Chancellor Jim Tomkins. “Generous donations in
support of the Building Dreams and Futures campaign priorities help
us attract the best and brightest students to our University.”
The
Regina Lions Band organization has provided and continues to provide
a first class musical education that has enriched the lives of
thousands of young people for over sixty years.
